The global forum for the Defence of the Less Privileged (GFDLP) has structured a new programme to reduce social injustice. The programme dubbed, Legal Aid, aims at providing assistance to the less privileged-unable to pay lawyers to defend their cases.

Many detainees suffer in the four walls of the prisons just because they lack the finances to take care of lawyers, including the unending paperwork. Due to their poor status and inability to have a ‘God Father’, they tend to give-up and face the consequences. The GFDLP has once again come to put a smile on their faces.

GFDLP’s objective is to fight for the rights of such people with no defence; to give them a chance to life because they believe everyone deserves that. This is a vital public service to the poor and less fortunate of the society as well as victims of social injustices. This will ensure a fair and effective civil and criminal justice system by promoting access to justice.

The Legal Aid team is made up of six volunteer attorneys with more than five years of working experience in the Legal profession. They will offer services in the following areas:

Housing: to support those suffering from the abuse of their landlords. Family: To provide peaceful strategies for resolving family disputes. Employment/individual rights: To protect individuals and families with special needs. Public benefits: To ensure fair and lawful treatment by government agencies.

Maximum attention is granted to persons in need of Legal Aid when they approach GFDLP’s office with their problems. Every applicant is required to fill an application form for the opening of a file at GFDLP office.

The team is always ready to provide advice on the necessary procedures based on the application. Assistance from the government and the international community is vital to the success of GFDLP Legal Aid program to the socially vulnerable.
