Legal Aid (LA)

North West and South West Regions – 2015 – 2020

Some notable achievements of the GFDLP LA team are the following:

Established 700 birth certificates (including birth registrations) for internally displaced women and children including birth registration;

Trained 260 women leaders, 68 youth leaders, 110 journalists, and 180 community leaders on peacebuilding, Community Mobilization, and conflict transformation;

Provided legal aid to 54 detainees, by facilitating their freedom from detention and helping them reunite with their families in the North West Region (19) and South West Region (25). Equally, hearings for 30 cases are currently being fast-forwarded.

Additionally, GFDLP organized a symposium to highlight the condition of detention facilities, where the following recommendations were retreated:

Trial judges, investigating magistrates and those in control of Police and Gendarmerie cells should grant bail to persons accused of bailable offenses, desist from avoidable arrest, and detention of persons.

The Attorney General should commission a census of detained accused and awaiting trial persons, and their briefs were given to some legal practitioners to hasten their defense and trial on agreed terms.

Protection monitoring

North West and South West Regions | 2015 – 2020

GFDLP adopts the global standard for protection monitoring, namely; prevention, responsiveness, and remedial actions. 

300 women leaders trained as trainers of trainees on peacebuilding and conflict transformation.

200 journalists in the NW and SW Regions trained to produce/direct/edit programs aiming to promote peacebuilding and conflict transformation.

100 youth leaders trained to train others in their communities on peacebuilding and conflict transformation.

150 community leaders coached to train the people in their respective communities on peacebuilding and conflict transformation and to equally display exemplary lives as peace and development ambassadors.

WASH

North West and South West Regions | 2015 – 2020

Advocated successfully for the maintenance of 10 water points in Fako division by development agencies. 

Donated 400 washing hand buckets and aqua tabs to Bonakada, Small Soppo, Evonda, Bova, Tole, Sasse, (communities in the South West Region, Fako Division).

Health

North West and South West Regions | 2015 – 2020

Over 4000 women, youths, and children screened for Hepatitis B and C in Fako Division.

Established St. Amara the Great Polyclinic.

Established partnership with Artemis Hospital India for referral of severe cases of liver diseases.

Sensitization and follow-up of 1500 rural women on the importance of immunization.

Education Programs

North West and South West Regions | 2016 – 2019

Four persons living with disabilities had tuition-free scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies at the Pan African Institute for Development – West Africa (PAID-WA) Buea. 

Didactic materials were distributed to over 50 schools.

More than 50 pupils have benefited from the scholarship

Social Welfare and vocational training

North West and South West Regions | 2018 – 2019

Facilitated the training of 150 Internally Displaced Girls, and provided small grants to 20 trained Internally Displaced Girls.

Peacebuilding and Development Programs

North West and South West Regions | 2017 – 2020

At least 300 women leaders were trained as trainers of trainees on Peacebuilding, Mediation, Community Mobilization, and conflict transformation.

At least 200 journalists in the two English Speaking Regions were trained as facilitators of Peacebuilding and conflict transformation.

At least 100 youth leaders were schooled on peacebuilding and conflict transformation and deployed to communities to educate the population.

At least 150 Community Leaders were drilled on Peacebuilding and Conflict
transformation and used in the communities as ambassadors of peace and development.
